Newly Appointed Consultants Development & Leadership Programme

The programme has been designed to support newly appointed Consultants within the first 12 months of commencement in post and focuses primarily on the development of leadership and management skills. The programme aims to build on undergraduate and postgraduate training to support newly appointed Consultants’ ‘attachment’ to the organisation and support the transition from a learning Doctor to a ‘leading’ Consultant. It is with this aim in mind that for future new Consultants, the organisation has decided to make this programme available to all new consultants across CMFT’s hospitals.

Fourteen cohorts of the year-long programme have or are participating on this programme which comprises Action Learning, tailored Workshops and work on a service re-design project in line with the Trust’s vision and current challenges. Further programmes are commencing in October 2014.

Recent presentations of the service re-design projects that participants have been working on have been extremely well received by the organisation’s senior team. There have been significant economies, improved clinical services and innovative initiatives.

We have also delivered and Strategic Leadership programmes for senior consultants aspiring to Clinical Lead & Director roles, as well as programmes for established Clinical Directors.

“MFT has been working in partnership with David and Liz from the Brafferton Group since 2011. Their hard work, dedication, enthusiasm and contributions have played a significant part in helping us to implement a very successful leadership development programme for newly appointed consultants working in the Trust.

Following the highly successful pilot programme we decided to implement a rolling programme of development for all newly appointed Consultants coming to work for the organization. David and Liz will continue to support us to ensure we maintain a consistent high quality of delivery and approach.

I wholeheartedly would recommend them to any organisation going through periods of instability and change in order to support the long term leadership and development of its staff.”
